History of the city
It was known as « boukabrine’ in reference to the sacred crown ‘ sidi boukabrine’.Thus the train station was given the same name ‘ station of boukabrine’.Then it was known for a long time with ‘ souk sayadi’ in reference to the weekly sayadi market which took place every Thursday. At the beginning of the seventies (nearly 1971) it was named as ‘ mensal hayat’ instead of boukabrine .It is a very old city with a modern name,boosting in 1985 after the creation of the municipality ‘ menzal hayat’ in 8 april 1985 in pursuit to the order no 589 .Menzal hayat is located on both sides of the national road no 1 between the cities of sousse and sfax laying about 35 km South of the town of Sousse , 39 km km north of the city of sfax and belongs administratively to the district of zaramdine( State of monastir).It is far 40 km from the center of the state .It covers a total area of 13.444 hectares .The city of manzal hayat is characterized of the dispersal of its houses and the distribution of residential zones on the whole area . moreover it is divided into three main residential area : Menzal hayat,mzawgha and mlishat in addition to the existence of separate small residential areas:northern mzawgha ,Awled Ardhawi,Alalsha,Ariem,Statra,Zhahfa,Zwidet and Trabilsia. The council of the state of Sousse desired to create a center for the city of ‘ manzal hayat’ that is why a group of 100 popular houses have been built by National real estate company of Tunisia during 70 years.At that time there was only ‘ fondok sayadi’ and two shops for selling food. The new center started to be inhabited after the building of the popular houses and the foundation of a weekly market.
The peculiarities of the region:
The most important residential groups in menzal hayat are : the town of Mzawgha and the village of Mlishat in addition to the existence of many residential zones which belongs to the municipality authority such as : Ariem,ouled ardhaoui,Trabilsia,Zhahfa,Rwashdiya,ouled masak,ouled bezouida,northern mzawgha,Alalsha,Ouled manja ,Sakhara,Farahtia,ouled aroud and ouled smida. All of them are charecterised by : The vastness of its countryside and its agricultural lands Interest in farming through the continous planting of olives and fruitful trees . Brick industry( factories of brick manufacturing in menzal hayat ( BCM / IBZ))
Geographical locationin
Menzal hayat is located in the coast of Tunisia on Nnational road no 1 beyween the cities of Sousse and sfax . It lies about 35 km from the city of Sousse and 39 kilometeres from the city of sfax. It belongs administratively to the state of Monastir Border : South : karkar city (Mahdia) the governorate of beni Hassan(Monastir) East: Municipality of zaramdine area (Monastir) North:Municipality zone of ‘ menzal kamel’ ( state of monastir)
